Theotokos of Vladimir

The Most Holy Theotokos is depicted in the ancient Orans posture, with her hands raised in prayer and Christ Emmanuel shown within the medallion at her breast. Known as the Mother of God “The Sign,” this iconographic type reveals the mystery of the Incarnation — the Word of God taking flesh through the Virgin Mary.
The icon is hand-painted in the traditional egg tempera technique on a prepared wooden panel, using natural pigments applied in successive translucent layers. The background is finished with genuine gold leaf, following the traditional methods of Orthodox icon painting.
