The Baptism of Christ — Theophany

Christ stands in the waters of the Jordan as He receives baptism from Saint John the Forerunner. The heavens are opened above Him, the Holy Spirit descends in the form of a dove, and the angels stand in reverence upon the riverbank. The icon depicts the Theophany—the revelation of the Holy Trinity at the Baptism of the Lord.
Hand-painted in traditional egg tempera on a prepared wooden panel, using natural pigments and successive layers of translucent color. The background is finished with genuine gold leaf in accordance with traditional Orthodox icon-painting techniques.
